- MELISSA MILLER

"The best memories of my life are of the times spent in the kitchen with my Memaw."

Food really brings people together — I love that connection and the happiness surrounding it. Since graduating from Indiana University in 2008 with a degree in Journalism and Fine Arts, I’ve worked as a magazine art director in Chicago.

Baking has always been my hobby, and after getting so much positive feedback from family and friends I decided to bring my passion to life.In the summer of 2016, I became legit—got my food permit, rented a commercial kitchen, and began my journey as a small business.

After taking custom orders and creating dessert tables, Sweet Melissa quickly evolved into something much different...I started to really enjoy curating my brand and sharing it with others. Instead of the busy rush baking for events, I embraced and appreciated the original root of my passions with food—taking things slower, cooking with family, sharing recipes.

I see Sweet Melissa as a food lifestyle brand for anyone who enjoys the simple things in life.

Years from now I want to be remembered for my love of cooking, being true to myself, and enjoying life to its fullest.

Melissa's Favorites

Picnics

I love planning elaborate picnics any time of the year. My claim to fame was winning runners up in the Grant Park Music Festival Picnic Contest in Chicago a few years ago with my Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony-inspired spread.

the dunes along lake mighican

I feel at home nearby the lake—whether it be climbing the dunes or walking out to the lighthouse. My heart belongs in the Midwest.

FRESH LILACS

We always had fragrant purple lilac bushes growing outside my house in Indiana. The scent of fresh lilacs always brings memories of sunshine and springtime.

PIZZA

I could eat pizza every week for the rest of my life—it never gets old! My absolute favorite is the four cheese from Silver Beach Pizza in St. Joseph, Michigan.

CRAFT BEER

Dare I say it, the one thing I may love more than desserts is...beer! When I’m not baking, you can find me at one of the many local craft breweries nearby getting a flight with my dad.
